Live show guest appearance improv with Hannaward Pass | Avondale Brewery Birmingham, AL
Went to see some friends I know play last night at Avondale Brewery Birmingham, AL . They called me up cold turkey from the crowd to jam with them... on a song I never heard before. Glad it was in Em Lol
Lead singer just handed me his guitar and off we went.
My wife got some of it on her phone.
This is a rare occurrence for me these days.
It was fun! I coulda killed them for putting me on the spot like that, though. In front of everyone. Glad it wasn't a train wreck. lol

    Such, such good builders. I have both. 3 Suhrs and 2 Andersons. I doubt I'll part with any of them. Part of the trouble of having GAS is it's really kind of an addiction. Now I'm mesmerized by James Tyler guitars. EVEN MORE expensive lol. That said, I played one for the first time the other day and my jaw was literally on the floor. Could not believe how well it played. I didn't think it was possible for a solid body electric to feel much more solid than Suhr and Anderson, but damn. The Tyler I played might just be. (to be noted we are MAJORLY splitting hairs at this level. All wonderful guitars built by guys who a truly dedicated to the craft).

    How is this neck compared to the s2 standard satin neck?

    • @tonlarj37
      @tonlarj37 Місяць тому

      All the PRS necks have felt really good to me. But, they all seem to slightly vary in thickness from guitar to guitar. I've played some that where much thicker feeling. Same carve, but thicker. This CE (Pattern Thin) is thinner than some of the others I've played. Still feels great! The CE has been a wider thinner neck than the S2's in the past. That said, I think they now make the S2's with the pattern thin rather than the Pattern regular.

    My friend got one. Over $5k but hands down the greatest Stratocaster I have ever put my hands on and the first guitar in that price range I felt was actually worth every penny of the price. It even feels noticeably higher end than any Custom Shop Strat I have felt to date. Pickups were pretty good, but overly midrange heavy and nothing I really loved, but the guitar itself was total perfection.

    Could you please elaborate on the actual physics of how tightening and untightening the fine tuners changes the pitch? When you screw them down, they press on the long screws, which in turn, press on those silver levers below them. Is it the fact that it changes the angle of the long screw that changes the tuning or does the silver lever below have to be engaged to change the pitch? I'm interested because I am thinking about modifying my Floyd Rose so that instead of the strings being locked in by the long screw pressing on them, I would remove the long screw and instead, run the string through the hole the long screw was in, leaving the ball end on the string so that they would not need to be clamped. The only drawback to this that I see would be that the fine tuners would no longer work because the thumbscrews probably wouldn't reach the silver levers without the long screw being in place.

    I have the Henrik Danhage limited edition SC-1 and you’re right about the neck. The speed neck is not the same on these SC-1 type guitars. … they are better in my opinion. I tried a MJ charvel just recently with the so called speed neck and my limited SC_1 in back to back comparisons and there’s definitely a difference. The so called speed neck on the MJ charvel is chunkier and wider ,not as comfortable. I have fairly big hands too. But I prefer to be able to wrap my thumb over the neck in a Hendrix type style of playing. So the MJ got returned. Thanks for your video. You just confirmed it for me. And you sounded great. I love my SC-1. Mine has a JB in the bridge and a dimarzio in the neck. It came with a case at least.

    • @tonlarj37
      @tonlarj37 4 місяці тому

      Interesting. Suhr's are not my favorite guitars. The one in this video was beyond exceptional. I have a friend who had a truss rod issue with his Suhr, they replaced the neck for a far superior one at no extra charge. The said, I've had 5 Suhr's and played probably 20+ more. Not one had any issues. I've also been playing almost 40 years and have never seen a squire that didn't have issues. Squire is mostly cheap crap and would need significant mods to get up to par. I've probably upgraded 20+ over the years. Suhr's are ridiculously over priced. Even the lower end models. I'll have to call you on your squire claim. Anyone who is a true guitarist knows better.

    Is the pattern regular significantly thicker than pattern thin? And is the string spacing much smaller on the pattern regular because of the narrower nut?

    • @tonlarj37
      @tonlarj37 4 місяці тому

      The S2 nut width is 1.65-ish but a little deeper rounder carve. Pattern thin is 1.689-ish (1 11/16) One will slightly vary from another in thickness. I've had really thin, pattern thin profiles and some fairly thick! So... kinda hard to say. At least the ones I've owned and to played. They both feel great, though.

I put thornbuckers in a Kiesel with same specs as the Kiesel in the video, and it sounded like the Suhr that’s in this video. So, my conclusion is that wood doesn’t matter as much as pickups and wiring in my particular experience. If it does? It’s extremely subtle.

    I did it the way he demonstrated. No problems whatsoever. I am experienced with tools and was careful. YMMV. I watched a few other videos to make sure I understood the risks. It was fine. I haven't redented the last thread because. I can see and feel when the fine tuner is about out of travel. At that point I unlock tune and reset the fine tuners. There is also another video where if you have a Floyd 1000 you might have to clean the threads with a tap. As with anything you need to know the correct size and be careful. Some of the comments on here are very cautionary. If your that worried about a disastrous outcome take it to a professional. Be stress free. If you want to learn but your not super experienced then you can research each concept and tool first. Once you do that you gain skills. The folks who put this stuff up help us learn much faster. They already have the experience. If you have a better way do it your way. Thank you for this video.
